Jesenica is a little-known river that both rises and sinks near the village of Lička Jesenica in Karlovac County. The village lies beneath the northern slopes of the forested Mala Kapela and near a major travel corridor between Ogulin, Plaški, Saborsko, and Plitvice Lakes. Though thousands pass nearby, few are aware of the area's rich karst hydrology. Streams born here vanish underground multiple times before re-emerging to form the Mrežnica and Slunjčica rivers, vital parts of Croatia’s freshwater network.
